Reviewed by Leofwine_draca 10 / 10 Besson's masterpiece - action cinema with real heartĭespite having a mainly American cast and being set on the rough streets of New York, this is very much a French film, evident from the crew list at the end of the film. The film has great parts but I do found its story rather rushed and somewhat uneventful. Why even try to imply or add it in the story AND given the hindsight we have, it feels more so exploitative as day passes by. I think its just out of no more plot that never really went anywhere. Even more so disappointing is how sexualized Matilda is. In hindsight, maybe its the sound mixing or the pacing of this cut but it just felt lacking. I think it feels in the grand scope of things missing the magnitude that I think the film could went for. I think its main plot beat is strong enough to move the story itself but I do not know its just went to it and it felt like its just rush. However, I think this film real problems lies with its story. I love the acting especially from Portman and Reno. I think its clear that there are things that work in this film.
